And if there are any Bloggers going to a Final for the first time – a special delight – I wish you a particularly happy day

My guess for the team (I have no inside information!):

Rosouw, Alsop (wkpr), Vince, Northeast, Adams, Weatherley, Dawson, Berg, Crane, Steyn, Topley

(options being McManus for Alsop and Wood for Topley, but that’s my guess)

Reece Topley hoping to play a Lords Final unlike his dad who was 12th man in 4 finals http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/23941684/reece-fears-return-curse-topleys

How frustrating! I was by no means a very special club cricketer but I played in a semi final once when my lot beat Gosport (inc Alan Wassell) and I was picked for the Final. Then it rained. Then a couple of guys came back from holiday and when the game was re-scheduled, I was 12th man. (We lost). I did play in a footy Final (and won) but never again cricket.

Woody has been one of our best bowlers in the competition this year so I really hope he doesn’t miss out.

It would be a real shame if Woody doesn’t play…….just live his enthusiasm on the big occasions & almost always pulls something out of the bag for a televised match 😊

Let me stress here, my selection is not my ‘preference’ – just my gut feeling. I’ve loved all our own young men getting us there this year but I fear Taylor won’t be the only one to miss the big day.

Terrific interview with Robin Smith just appeared on Youtube
From cricketmentoring.com
Not very up with links etc but I got it by entering

Looking forward to tomorrow, have not missed a final since they started, (further proof of approach of second childhood!).
Don’t forget to take plenty to drink. (Champagne later?)

Hopefully this is the link to the interview you were talking about John

This is TERRIFIC; I’m so delighted to see it. Five years ago he sent a video link to a farewell party for ‘Dimi’ and it was a terrible shock because Robin was in a bad way. He wasn’t looking after himself at all, and reports coming back were very troubling.

He looks MUCH BETTER here and speaks well. He’s such a lovely bloke, so I’m really pleased to see it – especially on the eve of our Final since he’s our all-time top scorer. Thanks John & Jo.

The interviewer in that Robin Smith video is Australian Tom Scollay. I didn’t recognise the name but he played for Middlesex. Cricinfo also says he played for our 2nd XI.
