Hampshire 2nd XI 140 all out, from 48-6 (Abbott 43, Currie 23*, Woods 19, Adams 18)

Gloucestershire 2nd XI 122-6 (Woods 6-2-12-2, Abbott 9-5-15-2, Holland 9-2-18-2)

And in the Times “Falling Crowds worry ECB as Players’ Chief backs Test overhaul”. The worry is about Test ticket sales – evidently England v India in Birmingham is not selling well until day three (Friday) despite the fact that there are actually quite a few Indian supporters in that part of the country.

The Ageas Bowl is singled out, with the information that “only 8,000 tickets have been sold for the first day, and 5,000 for the fourth day”.

Vipers lost again too. The Ageas Bowl is not the place to be for the T20 this year is it?

At £60 a ticket for the test match is it any wonder that ‘only’ 8000 have been sold for the first day which is a weekday after all. Its a very expensive day out for anyone other than the most enthusiastic cricket fan. Aiming to sell any more than that is surely unrealistic.

I see also according to our illustrious HCC website that Tash Farrant took a hat trick in her previous match which included the wicket of Katie George, one of her own players!

Earlier this year there was a discussion on here about Glamorgan’s ‘promising’ Donald. I was troubled by the suggestion that we might sign him. He doesn’t get in their awful Championship side but last night managed a dreadful piece of fielding (last ball) to give Surrey a boundary then was out second ball for nought. No thanks!

Hard to be surprised. It’s always sad when good long-time players reach ‘the end’ and they and the club fall out. It happens so often and there are probably two reasons (i) the club isn’t straight with people, helping them to prepare for the end (listen to the Robin Smith interview) and (ii) players don’t recognise the world is changing and it’s time to move on.

In this particular instance, let’s pick Ervine instead of …?
He’s not an all-rounder any more and in this year’s T20 averages the rank order with above 20, is Munro, Dawson, Northeast & Alsop (21.6). So I guess we’d have to drop either Rossouw or Vince (below Wood, averaging 10). Which one?

People also keep asking about Berg. Of the 149 bowlers in this year’s national averages he’s 139th, averaging 61.5 and going at 10.25 per over. So instead of? It’s an easy game from here!!

Smith last year Ervine this. Neither got a chance despite the batsmen struggling. Makes you wonder why they are under contract if we are going to totally ignore them.

The Vipers reports on the HCC website get worse. I see the Vipers had the former Home Secretary Amber Rudd playing for them. No wonder they got thrashed!
