Hampshire Cricket History

Second (?) XI

One of the dafter consequences of the fixture list is that loads of (costly) capped cricketers don’t play cricket. There’s a match in Taunton Vale today where a Somerset 2nd XI’s top-scorers have been Trescothick and Dom Bess, batting against Fidel and Kyle. Now Jimmy Adams is batting in pursuit of 371 to win the game (5.30pm):

Somerset 2nd XI 243 (Trescothick 115, ED Woods 4-61, Edwards 2-46) & 274 (Bess 76, Searle 4-46, Woods 3-69) v Hampshire 147 (Dickinson 42*, Abbott 31, Bess 4-35) & 6-0

*Dickinson is down as retired not out – not sure what that means. Perhaps released due to extenuating circumstances?

PS: Close of Play: Hampshire 74-0 (Soames 38*, Adams 32*)

I’d imagine you are correct with regard to Dickinson because we lost ten wickets in our first innings with Dickinson and Searle both not out plus Edwards and Dale not batting.

Interestingly Dom Bess’s cousin Zak is playing for us having played for Devon this season and both Somerset and Surrey 2nd XIs in previous years.
