Good Luck Emily

Emily Windsor who just happens to be from Pompey is in the Vipers squad for the rest of the season because Tash Farrant is injured. Many of you will recognise Emily as one of Mr James’ co-commentators, and she’s a delight. I’ve no idea whether she’ll play today but if she does – best of luck. Not that this signals on my part, some sudden enthusiasm for T20 you understand …

Meanwhile, no news yet of tonight’s Hampshire team. Not that this signals on my part, some sudden enthusiasm for T20 you understand … (Although since Mrs A is off to her Zumba class, I might watch it on the ‘telly’)

Speaking of Zumba, in 1988 when for the first time we won that semi-final at Chelmsford I sat in front of a row of Essex ‘geezers’ who were much more fun and much less abrasive than those you get nowadays on a Friday night. They drank copiously, were all overweight etc and at some point began discussing keeping fit. One guy started winding the others up, telling them he worked out everyday to one of the Jane Fonda videos (Remember? Jane Fonda? Videos?)

His mates weren’t convinced but he kept this up for a good ten minutes before one of his doubting mates asked, which Jane Fonda Workout video? Back came the instant reply: “On Golden Pond” Audience delighted!

Same squad as last match except Steyn for Munro. Presumably Edwards and Abbott will have to come back from 2nd team game in Taunton. Perhaps they’ll get a lift on the Somerset coach!

You not joining Mrs A. then? I didn`t know for sure where Emily lived but I sussed a clue when a co-commentator mentioned support for another footie team (who have red in their kit) and she quickly jumped in with “no I`m PFC”. Would be nice to see her in action this afternoon, Shame Jaimo won`t be around.

Sadly she’s not playing. She’s originally a Pompey girl, now at Uni here doing Sports Science. She played for Havant but now somewhere up-county

Not about Hampshire but it seems nearly 4000 people attended a club match this week. No need to create further new formats to attract people to watch cricket!

3pm – Hampshire 2nd XI are subsiding to defeat, 214-8. Adams went first thing for 33, Soames made 56, Abbott is currently 24* so presumably not playing tonight. Leach has four wickets and Bess three.

Almost 90 minutes later and still just nine down. Incidentally McManus scored 2 & 4 in this game – is he the next wicketkeeper to lose his place since the departure of Pothas? Throughout the 20th century + Hampshire had pretty much one keeper per decade or more: Stone, Livsey, McCorkell, Harrison, Timms, Stephenson, Parks, Aymes and Pothas but in this decade, Bates, Wheater, McManus, Alsop already.
