The 2nd XI lost to them by lots (Abbott 53*). I’ve just watched the Vipers win a match (by which I mean I watched the last over on the box, in which they took about a dozen wickets).

So Hampshire’s T20 is on at 6.30 but (sorry James) no Foyle’s War (Lewis?). There are 15 in the squad and Abbott and probably McManus won’t get back in time, leaving 13. They have Steyn and also Lintott who played one game last year (unorthodox left arm), but where’s he been this year? Having lost Munro, they have no extra batsman – interesting trick after that last innings second-lowest ever score, to weaken the batting! That might fool Somerset.

It’s fooling me!

There’s a big bloke on the Hampshire bench in coaching blue kit, with a weird beard – looks like a Hells Angel. Is he the new fine leg coach?

Halfway stage: I haven’t been to a T20 game for two years but I can see the attraction – that Hampshire innings was as aesthetically pleasing as it was exciting … Northeast top-scored with 30, but the TV showed he should have been given out leg-before much earlier. It could have been another record low! Hampshire to win by 30 runs perhaps?

Who needs History? On TV, Dominic Cork & Mark Butcher were discussing Hampshire’s forthcoming captains dinner. They managed to name them all back to Bob Stephenson, plus Shaun Udal who never was officially, and Butcher even recalled Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie.

But neither named Richard Gilliat, the last man to lead Hampshire to the Championship title, the only man to lead them to first, second and third in the Championship, and the first (and second) man to lead them to a limited-overs trophy.

That’s all.

I noted that!
Butch also queried what Hampshire can do to rescue their season. And I thought we won the RL Cup!

The misery is over. After tonight’s defeat we cannot qualify.

It didn’t help that we bowled 12 wides (2 extra overs) and Somerset bowled none and no no-balls either.

Myburgh haunts us again.

I don’t understand why we didn’t sign him.

Out all evening so Foyle’s War (or Lewis an acceptable alternative) wasn’t needed. However should I be in next game and my TV choices aren’t available I have found a paint brush and so can always paint a wall and happily sit and watch it dry. Infinitely preferable!
