Lots of Hampshire in this week’s Cricket Paper

For starters, there is of course a report on the victory v Worcestershire, while the centre pages are devoted to a big piece on Jimmy and a shorter one on ‘Slug’ Jimmy says he going because while he’s physically ok, his “mind is just wandering a bit” and he’s not finding it easy to control anxieties and uncertainties. He also says that the current state of Hampshire as a Championship side is a “regret” and a “frustration”, and the piece adds that “a coaching role beckons”. ‘Slug’ says that the time to stop “dawned … last weekend” on the trip away from his family to Derby, but he is “also a little deflated from the situation with Hampshire and how they went about things”.

There’s a sad interview with fellow Zimbabwean and former Hampshire bowler Heath Streak, who has been sacked and left unpaid by the shambles that is Zimbabwe cricket and there is also the final Southern League results and table, and congratulations to Jimmy’s club St Cross (also Weatherley) who have won the title from Burridge (second) and the Academy (third).

Finally there is a big feature and photo on the John Manners record of this week, so a good buy from our point of view.

On TMS just before lunch they were saying the Oval pitch (typically batsman- friendly) should last 4-5 days and they were suggesting Monday might be a good day to come to the Test!

Ian Holland was another who appeared for St Cross in their Championship season.
