Today’s Times reports that Colin Graves failed to turn up to present Surrey with the Div One Trophy yesterday despite being on the ground, because a meeting of County Chairmen led to a “significant disagreement (about) … the amount of money the ECB is thought to be spending on its new hundred-ball tournament”. Apparently Graves was “left angered” by the argument.

There was a hint that Graves made one response which might have been an offer to resign – while one of the Chairmen (not named) said the meeting was “very heated”.

There is a also a suggestion that the original projection of a £30m profit has now been revised to £5m.

Incidentally, I think we might adopt Matthew Engel’s name for the new competition on here – “The 16.4” (?)

George Dobell tweeted “Colin Graves is awarding the Championship Trophy tomorrow. It’s like asking Margaret Thatcher to award ‘coal-miner of the year.'”

He did that on September 26, so it was clearly scheduled.

As for “16.4”, fair enough, but perhaps US General McAuliffe came closer during the Battle of the Bulge? Always assuming it has to be parliamentary, unlike the process that’s bringing it about.

Hah! I had to look up that one (the answer appropriately is “Nuts”). I noticed, while checking that a Major T Middleton was involved. Was he the batting coach?

Similar reports onESPN and Independent websites. Why am I not surprised that it is all unravelling? Rather now than later.

Yes indeed Alan – let’s hope so. Funny to think some of us will hope for the survival of the COUNTY T20!
