Off we go again, in pursuit of our first title since 1973 (I can dream can’t I?). As I suggested Joe Weatherley is not fit, Rilee comes in for him but I guess he won’t open, so will that be Tom?
Otherwise it’s the same side that finished the match at Newclose plus Fuller – a reward for a fine day on Saturday – and Brad Wheal, something of a forgotten man and one who surely has to begin establishing himself pretty soon. He is in his fifth season with Hampshire and has played in 25 first-class matches – but his most appearances (9) came in 2016, while his wicket returns fell from 22 that season to 15 in 2017 and 11 in 2018.
PS Confusing team news initially but after 12.20 start, Weatherley IS playing (despite reports to the contrary) and Fuller makes his Championship debut as a change from the final IOW side, replacing the injured Abbott; the other change is Rossouw for Donald.

The Times this morning has a small piece about the Final, mainly about its downgrading next year, while the Guardian has nothing to say. I can’t find the scorecard in either paper; the World Cup is now in media control (although good Final coverage in the Pompey News with photos I suspect by Neil Marshall).
Comment by pompeypop May 27, 2019 @ 8:47 amThe team currently on the ecb website has Weatherley playing for some reason. And abbot not playing.
Comment by Michael S May 27, 2019 @ 11:03 amNo Weatherley for sure, but won’t be surprised if Abbott rested. Interesting that Berg is not included in squad. At the Oval neither Vince nor Dawson are in England’s XI but they are both in England’s XV. At 92-7 it seems they only need half-a-dozen.
Comment by pompeypop May 27, 2019 @ 11:13 amBerg is currently skippering the 2nd XI in Taunton for some unfathomable reason

Vince was actually in the playing 12 for today
Comment by joster69 May 27, 2019 @ 2:15 pmThanks for 2nd XI alert James, Brad Taylor playing too – I think it’s time for him to go out on loan (even move). I suspect we won’t see that much of Berg in the immediate future but I don’t know anything – just speculating.
Comment by pompeypop May 27, 2019 @ 11:41 amBalance out for less than 150. It’s a miracle
Comment by Michael S May 27, 2019 @ 1:17 pmHow did Dom Bess come on as a substitute fielder on Saturday if he is in loan with Yorkshire?
Comment by Paul May 27, 2019 @ 1:33 pmMust be on loan for championship games only, like one of the overtons, I forget which one, playing for northants
Comment by Michael S May 27, 2019 @ 1:41 pmThe loan system is getting a bit ridiculous now. Middlesex’s Tom Lace went on loan to Derbyshire and was playing for them in the Championship, returned to Middlesex and played in their last Championship game and is now back playing for Derbyshire today.
Mind you that isn’t as much a feat as umpire Neil Bainton who according to both the BBC and Cricinfo is umpiring at Headingley and Hove today!
(It’s Jamie on loan at Northants Michael).
Comment by James May 27, 2019 @ 2:00 pmTaylor does need playing time really do not understand our selection policy sometimes.
Comment by Paul May 27, 2019 @ 1:35 pmWeatherley definitely playing taken a catch. Crane is playing and Fuller also. No Abbott
Comment by Paul May 27, 2019 @ 1:37 pmBrad Wheal has been playing for Scotland during May
Comment by joster69 May 27, 2019 @ 1:49 pmNice to hear from you all – many thanks! The key to loans is it seems competition-related although cup-tied Holland could have played for us on Saturday. Meanwhile Felix Organ who I believe scored 200+ for the 2nd XI v Navy last week is out for 110, and Brad has 114* – it’s 270-2. Not a great Bank Holiday in Pompey but dry and some sun, while in Yorkshire, well it’s Yorkshire isn’t it?
Comment by pompeypop May 27, 2019 @ 2:50 pmDave, Just read the Pompey News, did you write the comment piece on p45?
Comment by Paul May 27, 2019 @ 3:23 pmI’m not The News photographer, Dave. I stopped freelancing for them before Christmas. The Daily Echo and the odd shot for the club are my only outlets these days. I’m thinking of switching allegiance to Sussex (I’m learning the lyrics to “Sussex By The Sea) or calling it a day.
Comment by Neil M May 27, 2019 @ 3:38 pmI’m sorry to hear that Neil – didn’t realise. As for the Comment piece Paul, not me although it might have been!
Comment by pompeypop May 27, 2019 @ 4:45 pmMy choice, Dave, primarily because I’m back in full time employment.
Comment by Neil M May 27, 2019 @ 5:27 pmWhat a good effort today ‘up north’ – eight wickets down, one more and we’re top tonight. Meanwhile way out west, Taylor made 141, McManus is 41*. Good stuff.
Comment by pompeypop May 27, 2019 @ 4:49 pmYoutube is showing this game LIVE under Yorkshire cricket in case you havent got Sky etc.etc. Dont think our own Ageas website is showing it.
