First ball; first wicket

The first ball of the World Cup (Eng v SA at the Oval) bowled by Imran Tahir (one run to Roy). Second ball and off he goes, dismissing Bairstow to his first ball. Tahir is about to cross Vauxhall Bridge. Amla and Markram are both playing (Steyn is injured) but not Vince or Dawson.

Beautiful day in Pompey; a bit grey yet looks OK at the Oval, but raining in Yorkshire. I don’t think it will do us any harm – I can’t see a win and after weeks on the road I reckon our guys would settle for a swift, damp conclusion, a trip back home before sunset and a decent rest, while top-of-the-table.

3.15pm Sadly Hampshire making a game of it … At the Oval ‘our’ Amla is off wounded and Markram is in.

One minute later and he’s not … Hampshire batsmen falling everywhere.

Excellent Knock from Weatherly, doubly so considering the situation.

Yes indeed Michael – very heartening; 46; 66 & this 50+ in three consecutive games. Meanwhile (5.15) it looks as though Rilee’s after the win!

If you’re not watching the Oval action live, try to see the Stokes catch that took SA’s 7th wicket, it’s an amazing moment in a fine fielding performance.

Cheers Jo. Meanwhile we got away from Yorkshire with a draw but after a fine start we were hanging on. Rilee perhaps South Africa’s best batsman today?
