Matt Salisbury – Help?

Does anyone remember Matt Salisbury’s Hampshire debut v Warwickshire at the Ageas Bowl in his one season, 2017?

I’m pretty sure he took wickets with his first and third (Ian Bell) balls – they certainly fell to him (first-change) on balls one and three of the 13th over but that’s all I can discover. There’s no mention that I can find on Cricket Archive (which even misses that it was his Hampshire debut) or in Wisden or the Handbook. I suspect it’s not necessarily a ‘record’ that people keep – especially if not first-class debut.

I’m writing something for the Website and wanted to rely on more than my memory which is getting old (or full)

After a lot of googling, this from the BBC:

17:18 3 Jun 2017
‘What a moment’
Hampshire 515 v Warwickshire 19-3

Andrew Moon

BBC Radio Solent at Ageas Bowl

What a moment for Matt Salisbury! His first delivery as a Hampshire player was a beauty and dismisses Sam Hain caught behind and he then removes Ian Bell lbw.

Warwickshire now in trouble on a slow flat pitch but on which run scoring is difficult.

The link, which is a little, temperamental is:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/cricket/40043918/page/2

Fall of wickets confirms that, if Hain was his first ball wicket (12.1 overs), then Bell (12.3 overs) must also have fallen to him in the same over.
1-14 (Ian Westwood, 8.5 ov), 2-15 (Sam Hain, 12.1 ov), 3-19 (Ian Bell, 12.3 ov), 4-22 (Tim Ambrose, 15.6 ov), 5-46 (Rikki Clarke, 27.6 ov), 6-49 (Andrew Umeed, 29.1 ov), 7-81 (Grant Thornton, 34.5 ov), 8-185 (Keith Barker, 76.5 ov), 9-200 (Boyd Rankin, 81.3 ov), 10-254 (Jonathan Trott, 102.1 ov)

Hope that makes sense!

I checked the radio commentary – 2017 recordings can be found here

I think it was Andrew Moon at the microphone for that over. (About 6 hrs 25 minutes into the recording)

I’ll confess Dave – I was hoping to find you on commentary for that over!

Is that a complete archive of BBC radio commentaries Hedgehog? To whom does it belong?

Comment by dmashala

The archive of commentaries runs from 2017 to last year and was made by a chap in Texas. However I believe he stopped last summer owing to ill health.

The main page is

and you can navigate to sub sections from there, and stream or download.

I was there. Remember it well. Wonderful moment. He seems to specialise in debuts. Anyone that followed his early progress in Durham will be aware that he got 7 wickets in his home debut at the Riverside and a crucial 25 off 147 balls in their second innings to help them turn round a 109 run first innings deficit into a 95 run victory!
