Ever since …

That last ball at Liverpool I’ve been thinking thank goodness we didn’t finish second. I’d have enjoyed Lord’s this week basking in glory but not as ‘losers’ and I thought it might to tough for Lancashire to motivate themselves.

Having finished the work on those records for the Boards I had a quick look on TV at the game – Lancashire had only lost four wickets at that point (!) but after 45 minutes it’s six now and it looks very tough! Apparently at 12-6, they are not even one third of the way to the lowest ever first-class score at Lord’s (38).

Good job there are five days to finish the game!

I think Middlesex should have sixteen points deducted for a dodgy wicket.

(Well that’s what I have just suggested to my Middlesex supporting mate!).

Quite agree Dave, although with the forecast fair for tomorrow I’m planning on tootling along (it’s seven miles). But better batting or at least better scores by Cross Arrows and their opponents in years gone by……

Well Warwickshire are playing like Champions, Lancashire like Derbyshire so there might be some good batting to watch. Nice reference to the Cross Arrows! In the good old days their scores would be in the posh papers and you could spot Middx names. Enjoy the day.

Some transfer news Dave, I saw that Ajeet Dale has gone to Gloucestershire. Can’t blame him, not going to improve being our 7/8th choice seamer.

Comment by Tom Johnson

Thanks Tom – good luck to him. A shame; I saw him at Hove last year and he looked useful and our three front-line seamers are all nearing the end.

Another Hampshire name changing his life (BBC):

Middlesex assistant coach Nic Pothas has left the club after three years – “For personal reasons, which have made it very tough on me for the last six months, it would not be possible to give of my best to either the club or my family,” Pothas said.

This match is now like Liverpool in reverse – Warwickshire ahead, no wickets lost and Lancashire’s international leg spinner not bowling.

Having a game go into October is a little absurd but at the rate this one’s going it might not

Now that Warwickshire have a 1st innings lead the game is basically a dead duck. What a waste of a game and wouldn’t the extra week been more beneficial to play the county you qualified with therefore playing every county in the Division and not having to carry points forward? I can’t really imagine either Warwickshire or Lancashire want to be playing this pointless game

I agree John – it’s crazy too that Sky are televising it having ignored two deciders last week.

Or maybe having the winners of divisions two and three for the (fairly meaningless) trophy so they at least have something to play for in the latter stages of the Championship?
