How About This Week?

“The Guardian (online today) is reporting: “The UK is facing the prospect of a drought being declared in August, experts have said, warning of potential crop failures after a period of remarkably dry weather and extreme heat”.

I wonder whether it’s possible for this to occur in Yorkshire too?

Excellent. Given that we are – as Harry R would have it – down to the ‘bare bones’ for the RL Cup I wonder whether we will sign or maybe borrow someone?

Yeah, a few counties have been signing overseas players. A few Indian players (Lancs, Kent).

Donald, Prest, Gubbins, Brown (wk), Albert, Holland, Organ, Currie (?), Barker, Abbott, Turner

That’s all we have got I think. Currie hasn’t bowled for the 2nds and Barker didn’t play last year.

Bring your whites, Dave!

Excuse me! Isn’t the blooding of some of our young players what we all want. Bring them on.
I’ll be urging them on.

I hope we don’t sign anyone. I would rather see the youngsters play. Although it’s good for them financially, I fear Wheal and Crane may spend a lot of time on the bench in the 💯, which won’t help them developmentally

I think Chas has a point but if there are in reality ONLY 11 players and Currie is not fully fit there’s “blooding” and there’s damage. Also Keith Barker has never played any form of white ball cricket for Hampshire, so Tom’s list might be in reality nine-and-a-half players. That would mean Abbott, Turner, Holland, Prest and Organ as the full attack …

Incidentally Tom did miss out Fletcha Middleton (ten-and-a-half?) but he doesn’t bowl. Otherwise I wrote this previously:

I’ve excluded Harry Petrie who played in 10 T20 games for the 2nd XI but only one Championship match and seems to have disappeared. There are also those who played in the first-class game v Sri Lanka ‘A’: Dominic Kelly (age 16), Jack Campbell and Charles Mumford (wkpr).
