Spinning Success

Danny Briggs has been selected for England’s touring one day squads (T20 and 50 overs). If he becomes too successful and Hampshire lose him during the season they will not have much in the way of spin bowling – probably just batting spinners Dawson, Katich and Carberry. Still at least we may avoid another spinners wicket farce like the points penalty v Notts last year. During the recent UAE Test Series v Pakistan I kept seeing Giles Clark lounging around and wondered when Tony Pigot would appear ……



It was 50 years ago

Indeed, exactly 50 years ago when England played Pakistan (in Pakistan). ‘Butch’ White took a wicket with his first ball but was injured after a couple of overs and never played for England again. Despite this he had a very good fitness record over more than a decade as one of the few men to pass 1000 first-class wickets for the county.
