Jack Campbell will be 23 in November. He was born in Portsmouth where his grandparents live/lived but he grew up in Petersfield and was educated there at Churcher’s College.

He played for Liphook & Ripsley, north of Petersfield, including a 20-over game against Hampshire Academy in 2016 when his 2-20 included Felix Organ. He played that year and in 2017 for Hampshire’s under-17 side in the Championship and Cup competition and he played for our Academy in the Southern League in 2017. In May 2017 he made his debut for Hampshire 2nd XI against Essex 2nd XI but oddly, neither bowled nor batted.

In 2018, he was playing for Chester-le-Street in the North East Premier League – he began studying at Durham University – and was also playing for Durham 2nd XI and appeared once for England under-19s in a match at Gosforth.

In 2019 he played in two first-class matches for Durham University and then made his Championship debut for Durham v Leicestershire, taking one wicket. Last year he played in five List A and two T20 matches for Durham, taking six List A wickets at 37.66 and one T20 wicket.

In April this year he played for Durham University against Cambridge University (50 overs ) but in May was back down south and played in two 20-over friendlies for Hampshire 2nd XI against Club Cricket Conference and in one 2nd XI Championship match before he made his first-class debut for Hampshire against Sri Lanka A at the Ageas Bowl in mid-May (0-17; did not bat).

Now he is impressing us with his bowling in the Royal London Cup.

PS Thanks to James for alerting us to the report at Vimps at the Crease which is actually by Alex Smith (and adds information that he played at Steep nr. Petersfield, before Liphook)

You can find summaries and averages of Hampshire’s 2nd XI season via the External Links (top left green menu) on Tigger’s site (http://hampshirecricket.net/) which shows Campbell playing that one game. I cannot however find which game it was on Cricket Archive.

On the averages page just under the list of matches click on the ‘for match details click here’ and you will see that Campbell played the last match v Glamorgan. Taking 4-84 in the match.

Cheers Tigger. Interestingly (Tigger and Don especially) that the match in question three + weeks ago is listed on Cricket Archive but there is no scorecard (yet?)

Sorry my husband seems to have photobombed your picture Dave. We were intent on staying out of Kev’s video and seem to have intruded on your picture!!
